Leo Gillis Obituary
t is with great sadness that the family of John Leo Gillis, of Trenton, announce his passing on May 13, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Katheryn (Gertridge); sons: Michael (Heather), Andrew and David; and siblings: Mary Coady (Ken), Yvonne Curnew (Joe), Janice Gillis, Joan Gladney, Paula Gillis, Bill (Emily), Blaise (Jan) and Dannie (Carrie). He was predeceased by his parents, Dan Angus and Helen (MacKenzie) and siblings, Donnie, Liz, Catherine and Peter.
John was born in New Glasgow and worked for Michelin for over 36 years. He was very proud of his family. He had a passion for his Scottish heritage. He worked with the Federation of the Clans for many years, preserving the Gaelic language and traditions. John served as a Knight of Columbus, serving a term as Grand Knight and was very proud of his work in the community, including providing coats for kids. After his retirement at Michelin, he served as an altar server for over 10 years. Even with the difficulties that come with a shift work schedule, Dad always made time to support our activities growing up. Whether it was coaching hockey, working on the parents’ auxiliary, or cheering on basketball and rugby games. He loved meeting and talking to new people. He loved to share a joke and to help others when he could. He will be remembered for his faith in God, his honesty and good nature and his pride in his family.
He will be sorely missed.
