Eileen Jane CURRAN RAKHIT Obituary check_circle

CURRAN RAKHIT, Eileen Jane
Surrounded by the love of her family and holding her children’s hands, our beloved Eileen passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015, after a year-long fight against cancer. Family, including the friends that became part of hers, defined her life. A beautiful mother, wife, sister and friend, she leaves behind so many who loved and cherished her.
Eileen had a special ability to create memorable moments and lasting relationships with each and every person that she met. Her role as a mother was her pride and joy and truly defined who she was. Eileen was always the favourite mum on every field-trip, never packed a lunch without an “I love you” note, and hosted morning craft sessions for all the neighbourhood kids before walking them to school. As her children got older, she immersed herself in all of their activities. From chaperoning at Young Canadians to making costumes for dance competitions to bringing elaborate, healthy snacks to every soccer, snowboard, and musical theatre rehearsal à her kids had the most fantastic mum anyone could ask for. In between chauffeuring to activities galore, Eileen was everyone’s favourite WestJet flight attendant. Beautiful, funny, and always wearing her “can-do pants,” she worked her charm on guests from Honolulu to Montreal.
Once her babies left the nest, Eileen followed her heart and found true love and happiness with Kaush. With her “lovah” by her side, she spent her days travelling to gorgeous beaches, drinking fine wines, hosting glamorous dinner parties, and of course, creating a beautiful loving home in Salt Spring for their five beautiful children. She lived life with joy and gratitude and even during some of the hardest days over the past year she would say, “How can I be sad when I have the best life?”
Eileen is survived by her husband, Kaush Rakhit, and their five children, Madison, Alexandra and Kade Philps and Kevin and Olivia Rakhit; sister Maureen Fitzsimons and her children Kelly and Connor, mother-in-law Gita Rakhit, brother-in-law Gautam Rakhit and Lezlie Smith, and their children Alex, Emily, Anjoli with her husband Fernando and daughter Sienna. She is also survived by her children’s father Terrence Philps and his family. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Curran, and brother-in-law Reynold Grenier.
One of Eileen’s greatest gifts was her ability to bring people together and in that spirit, we invite you to honour Eileen on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at EDEN BROOK FUNERAL HOME à 17th Avenue S.W. and Lower Springbank Road, Calgary. Interment to follow. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca. If you would like to bring or send a note with your favourite memory of Eileen, the family would love to receive them. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army Agapé Hospice in Eileen’s name (1302 8 Ave NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1B8). The family would like to thank Agape Hospice for their care and compassion during Eileen’s final days and the palliative team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. –
